Anytime, Anywhere

This is a new children’s song (#1012 in the new hymnbook). It is short and easy to teach, but it teaches some powerful concepts.

This song was written by Angie Killian. She is an amazing composer. Here is a link to her website.

Gospel Teaching

This song lends to a wonderful discussion about prayer. You could discuss how we pray to our Heavenly Father, in the name of Jesus Christ. You could discuss some prayers that are mentioned in the scriptures, such as Enos praying all day in the forest (Enos 1:2), Joseph Smith praying in the Sacred Grove, Moses talking with God on a mountain, (Exodus 3:1)

You could share some personal experiences of praying in different places. This may help the children see that God is everywhere and in everything and wants to hear from them whenever and wherever. You could ask children or teachers in the primary to share some of their prayer experiences.

A Few Tips for Teaching

I will use a directional teaching method that works well. Having your children look, point, or turn to different areas in the room will help cement repeated phrases or words. I will hang the flipchart word Anytime on one side of the room and the flipchart word Anywhere on the opposite wall. Then I will review the rhythm and melody of these two phrases several times, each time having the children point or turn their bodies toward the words. Please remember that even though the words are the same, the melody changes from line one to line two, so you may need to sing them several times. You could have the pianist play the melody of the phrases and have the children start singing on the Anytime, Anywhere words only.

I will sing the phrases and then have the children sing Anytime, anywhere. Then we will change that up and have the children sing the phrases and teachers sing Anytime, anywhere. You could have a brave soloist sing Anytime, anywhere. There are many ways to switch it up. Repetition is your best friend!

After a few times of repetitions, remove the Anytime, Anywhere signs, but encourage the children to see them with their imaginations. They could still point or turn if they want. Remove the other pictures from the board when you think they are ready and BAM, that song is in their heads!
