I’m a Pioneer Too

This is a new song in our Hymns for Home and Church. Hymn # 1034. This song was written by Michael Finlinson Moody. You can find some information about this author here.

While reading his life story, I loved the idea he used as his children were growing up. He said “Music has always played an important role in the Moody family, beginning in the early days of parenting with songs for the children at bedtime.

Such traditions enrich our lives in daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly cycles. They become part of our identity and create lifelong memories that we can recall with pleasure. Even such simple, repeated ceremonies as the blessing on the food and family prayer can become treasured traditions that are transmitted to each new generation of children.

Music is one of the most effective tools we have as families to create family traditions. We don’t have to read music or have great singing voices to enjoy the benefits of music in our homes.

I agree with this! Music is a great way to teach, connect and imprint important memories.

Gospel Teaching

You might want to discuss with your children about what a Pioneer is. Here is a general definition: A pioneer is any person who leads the way for others to follow.

This song mentions the pioneers who pulled handcarts across the United States, and others who left their European and island homes to sail to a new country. They led the way for many to follow in their footsteps, literally!

There are many ways that each child anywhere in the world can be a pioneer, or work toward that goal. They don’t have to pull a handcart or move from their home. They can pave a new way in their own families and church and community.

You can download some some discussion ideas and questions here to help brainstorm ideas on becoming a pioneer today!
