Give Said the Little Stream

Give Said the Little Stream Pg 236 of the Children’s songbook is a classic song know by many children and adults. The sweet message of this song is that even though you might be little, you are powerful and have many things you can do and gifts to give.

I have made a flipchart to help you teach this song. It will get the children up and moving. The children will raise their hands every time they sing “Give”, stand quickly up and down on the word “Singing” and step side to side in the direction of the green arrows. You could also incorporate other movements, such as moving your arm as a flowing stream when you say the word, “stream”, wiggling fingers moving down when you say “rain” or holding your hands outward when you say “Jesus”. There are many options.

You might consider having your pianist move up an octave on the piano for the second verse about the rain. This will break up the sound just a bit.

A fun way to review this song once you have taught it, would be to put some blank pieces of paper on the board. While the children sing the first verse, have a child come to the board and quickly draw a picture of something they can do to help others or some way that they could show love. Then stop singing and have the other children guess what they drew. After the guessing is done, sing the chorus while the child goes and gives the marker to another child. The younger children might need the whole time to draw, so sing the whole verse and chorus and then guess what they drew.
