Easter Day by Day

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has encouraged us to celebrate Easter with more intention and focus. I love this idea. Here is a video from President Dallin H Oaks in February of 2025 about this idea.

He is Risen!

Although we can’t insist this happens in our primary children’s homes, we can supply ideas and materials to each child to possibly help create their own celebrations and new traditions WITH their family. Here are a few ideas.

Palm Sunday Singing Time

Here is a day by day activity to remember the last week of our Savior’s earthly life and the wonderful things He accomplished. I have created one with some songs to sing and one that has a place for you to write in your own songs, personalizing it for what your primary knows and loves. You can download this here.

Easter Day by Day with songs

Easter Day by Day without songs

This activity could take the whole hour of primary on Palm Sunday if that is what you want, or you can make it shorter by not singing all the songs. You could mention that you will be sending home a coloring book with scriptures and songs to read and sing together as a family. (you can find a link to the coloring books below) If your primary does not know the songs you want to sing for one of the days, a great way to sing them together is by watching a video (Karokee style). I will include some links to some that might work for you here.

Saturday: Love One Another Pg 136

Palm Sunday: Hosanna Pg 66

You probably don’t know this song, but it is very fitting for this Palm Celebration. Before you sing, you could tell your primary that there is an echo part. Teach the words, “Hosanna” and “All Hail Triumphant King.” (download) Have them listen once, then, the second time you play the song, have them echo those phrases. (Be aware that the echo of All Hail Triumphant King starts before the original singers finish that phrase. You might want to look at the music to be ready for that!)

Monday: The Miracle (Shawna Belt Edwards)

Tuesaday: Dare to Be True Pg 158

Wednesday: When He Comes Again Pg 82

or When the Savior Comes Again Hymn #1002

Thursday: Gethsemane Hymn #1009

Good Friday: Did Jesus Really Live Again Pg 64

Saturday: I Stand All Amazed Hymn 193

Sunday: Risen (Shawna Belt Edwards)

If these songs don’t work for you, please feel free to write in what your primary needs! These are just suggestions. Please remember to write in the songs on the coloring book before you make copies for your primary.

Another resource for you to use would be these coloring books. You could send them home with the children. You could encourage them to color one picture each day to remember what Christ did during Easter Week. They could read the scripture listed under the picture that tells about the story together as a family.

This is a two-page coloring book. Fold each page separately and then place the second folded page inside the first folded page. Easy-peasy!

You can download them here.
